Summer Skirt Workshop- Adult Sewing Class - June 13th and 20th
Class times:
Saturdays • 12:00–4:00 PM
June 13th & June 20th
This workshop is designed for adults who would like to build confidence sewing wearable garments while learning foundational apparel sewing skills. During this two-session workshop, you’ll choose from a curated selection of modern skirt patterns — all designed to be comfortable, versatile, and perfect for summer wardrobes.
Skirts are one of my favorite garments to teach because they offer so many opportunities to build practical sewing skills while creating something students genuinely love to wear. In this class, students will work with garment fabrics while learning techniques such as gathering, waistband construction, pockets, hemming, and garment finishing.
Estuary Skirt — a relaxed woven skirt with beautiful movement, practical pockets, and options for both simple and more detailed construction techniques
Henrietta Skirt — a playful gathered skirt with comfortable shaping and thoughtful details that make it both wearable and fun to sew
Carey Skirt — a versatile woven skirt with clean lines and modern styling that builds confidence in garment construction and finishing
Saturday Skirt Set Skirt — an easygoing elastic waist skirt designed for everyday wear, perfect for sewists looking to create a polished handmade wardrobe staple
Each of these patterns uses approachable construction techniques and can be made in a range of lightweight woven fabrics, allowing for both skill-building and personal style.
A couple of these patterns also include coordinating tops. While the focus of this workshop will be the skirt portion, some students may have time to begin the matching top as well. If you are interested in this option are welcome to purchase additional fabric accordingly.
Supplies:
Fabric:
Suggested fabrics include linen, cotton lawn, chambray, rayon, double gauze, lightweight canvas, and other woven apparel fabrics appropriate for your chosen pattern.
I keep a small curated selection of fabrics available in the studio for students who would like to purchase materials here, but students are also welcome to source their own fabric. I’m always happy to help with fabric selection and guide you toward appropriate choices for your chosen pattern.
Notions:
Thread to match your fabric
Additional notions will depend on your chosen pattern
Notions are available for purchase in the studio.
Please note:
Studio sewing machines are provided
Pattern purchase and printing are included in the cost of the class
Fabric should be washed prior to the first day of class
Students will select their pattern prior to the start of class so materials can be prepared in advance
What you’ll take away:
A finished handmade skirt you’ll love wearing
New skills in garment construction, waistband techniques, and garment finishing
Confidence sewing with woven apparel fabrics
A versatile handmade piece that reflects your personal style
