Shirt Sewing Weekend Workshop -Rochester, NY- June 27th - 29th
This Workshop takes place in Rochester, NY — address available upon registration
Class times:
Saturday and Sunday June 28th - 29th
10:30 am - 4:30 pm (with lunch break)
Friday June 27th
4pm - 6pm This is an optional session where we will go over the basics of using the sewing machine. I highly recommended you attend if you are brand new to sewing!
This workshop is suitable for all levels.
I can’t think of a better way to spend the weekend than making something beautiful and creative in the company of new and old friends. We will spend the weekend sewing and laughing with plenty of time to pause in our work and celebrate our progress and success.
Coffee, tea and snacks are provided. Please pack a lunch or make other arrangements for yourself.
You will have the opportunity to choose between 2 shirt patterns. Both of these shirts are designed by Sew House Seven and both are tried and true patterns that see regular rotation in my wardrobe.
The Revel Topper (the first eight photos) is a quick and satisfying make but don't let that fool you. The simple design offers some unique design features. The Revel pairs well with high waist pants and skirts and looks great as a short top but is also just long enough to tuck into a high to mid-rise bottom.
The Remy Raglan (the second eight photos) is a simple, timeless top that is quick to make. It features a relaxed fit at the bust and waist with three sleeve choices and an optional keyhole button closure. There is also an option to sew a long gathered sleeve.
This is an all inclusive workshop, meaning we will complete the whole process of making your shirt together, including choosing your size, cutting your fabric and constructing your new garment!
Supplies:
Fabric:
The Revel Topper is designed for fluid, less structured woven fabrics with drape so that the sleeves hang properly. Less structured fabrics usually have some natural give to them, allowing for a smoother construction of the shawl collar at the high shoulder point/corner while more tightly woven rigid fabrics have a more difficult time making the neck corner. Suggested fabrics are light to medium weight linen, linen/viscose blends, Ecovero challis, or even a silk charmeuse.
The Remy Raglan is designed for lightweight linen, but any lightweight woven will do. If you choose a more rigid fabric such as cotton lawn, the neck may appear smaller and the bottom hem fuller. For short sleeve option choose a fabric with no obvious wrong side.
Please have your fabric washed and dried before the start of class. This ensures the removal of any chemical sizing and guarantees all shrinking happens before you cut out your shirt!
Notions:
Coordinating thread
I will be curating a small collection of fabric to bring with me. If you would like to pick out sometime from my collection I will have it available for viewing and purchasing on site Friday between 12 and 4. I will also have coordinating thread.
Please note:
Studio sewing machines are provided.
Purchase of the pattern is included in the cost of the class.
Pattern printing is included in the cost of the class.
