Introduction to Sewing - Make a Simple Apron - October 24th

$95.00

Class times:

Saturday October 24th • 12:30–4:00 PM

This relaxed, hands-on class is designed for complete beginners who would like to learn how to use a sewing machine while making something useful along the way.

We’ll start by getting familiar with the sewing machine, including threading, winding and inserting a bobbin, choosing stitches, and learning how to control your fabric as you sew. You’ll have plenty of time to practice and get comfortable before moving on to your project.

Once you’re ready, you’ll make a simple, useful apron. Along the way, you’ll learn about seam allowances, pressing, hemming, corners, and topstitching while getting comfortable with the rhythm of sewing a larger project. We’ll also make a simple pocket for your apron if time allows.

The goal is not perfection—it’s to give you a chance to experiment, ask questions, and leave feeling much more confident about sitting down at a sewing machine on your own.

Supplies

Fabric: Please bring 1½ yards of prewashed woven fabric for your apron. Medium-weight cottons, linen, canvas, denim, or similar fabrics are good choices. I also have a small collection of fabrics available in the studio if you’d like to choose something here. I’m happy to help you choose an appropriate fabric if you’re unsure what to bring.

Notions: Matching thread is available for purchase in the studio. Additional supplies needed for the project will be provided in class.

Please note

  • Studio sewing machines are provided.

  • Please bring your fabric, or choose from the small collection available in the studio.

  • Matching thread is available for purchase in the studio.

  • All other supplies are included in the cost of the class.

  • No previous sewing experience is necessary.
