This two-week class is designed for adults who would like to learn to make their own comfortable, well-fitting underwear while building confidence sewing with stretch fabrics.
Underwear is a surprisingly satisfying garment to sew: it requires very little fabric, comes together relatively quickly, and gives you the opportunity to customize the fit, coverage, and finishes to suit your own preferences. In this class, you’ll choose from three thoughtfully selected patterns, each offering a different shape and style.
You’ll choose from:
Arccos Undies by Sophie Hines — a modern, thoughtfully designed underwear pattern with a distinctive shape and comfortable fit. A great choice for students looking for something a little different from a traditional brief.
Median Knickers by Sophie Hines — a higher-rise style with fuller coverage and a comfortable, secure fit. This pattern includes options for different finishes, including a no-elastic construction for those who prefer a softer feel around the waist and legs.
Hipster Underwear by Wardrobe by Me — an everyday, versatile style with options for different rises, leg openings, and coverage. The pattern also includes a no-elastic option for a soft, comfortable finish.
Each pattern offers opportunities to explore stretch fabrics, pattern construction, fit, and finishing techniques while creating underwear that is comfortable and suited to your personal preferences.

Fabric:
Underwear works best with a soft, lightweight knit fabric with good stretch and recovery. I recommend Valencia Organic Cotton Jersey from Lyrical Fabrics, a 92% organic cotton / 8% spandex knit that is particularly well suited to underwear.
Students are also welcome to choose another fabric with similar characteristics. Approximately ½–1 yard of fabric will be needed, depending on your size and chosen pattern.
I’m always happy to help you evaluate fabric choices before you purchase them if you’re unsure whether a particular fabric will work for your chosen pattern.

Notions are available for purchase in the studio.
Please note:
Studio sewing machines are provided
Pattern purchase and printing are included in the cost of the class
Students will select their pattern and size prior to the first class so materials can be prepared in advance
Fabric should be washed prior to the first day of class
Students should arrive with their fabric and any required materials ready to sew
