Fall Wardrobe: Tops and Layers — Adult Sewing Class - November 4th - November 18th

$175.00

Class times:

Wednesday’s • 6:00–8:00 PM
November 4th-November 18th

This class is designed for adults who would like to build confidence sewing wearable garments while creating a top or layer that will become a favorite part of their wardrobe.

Tops and layers are some of my favorite garments to teach because they offer so many opportunities to explore construction, fit, fabric, and finishing while creating pieces you’ll reach for again and again. In this three-week class, you’ll choose from a curated selection of patterns, each offering a different silhouette, style, and sewing experience.

Because the patterns vary in complexity and individuals sew at different paces, projects will take different amounts of time to complete. Some may be finished within the three weeks of class, while others—particularly the Pona Jacket and Marlo Sweater—will likely require additional sewing time outside of class. Your studio membership is included for the duration of the class, so you’ll have the option of coming in to continue working on your project between classes, or you could complete some of the steps on your home sewing machine.

Blackwood Cardigan by Helen’s Closet
A classic, versatile open-front cardigan with a close-fitting silhouette and clean, polished finish. Designed for knit fabrics, the Blackwood features long sleeves and wide bands along the front and hem. It’s a great option for creating a comfortable, everyday layer that can be worn year-round and paired with everything from dresses to jeans.

Toaster Sweater 1 by Sew House Seven
A cozy, modern sweater with two high-neck design options. This is a relatively simple introduction to sewing with knits and makes a comfortable, polished everyday layer.

Nora Sweater by MagicalWeave
A cropped pullover with a distinctive crossover front and long sleeves. This playful, unusual silhouette is designed for knit fabrics and makes a fun opportunity to explore a different approach to sweater construction.

Marlo Sweater by True Bias
An oversized sweater with a dropped shoulder, deep V-neck, wide bands, and large buttons. The pattern includes both cropped and longer options, making it a relaxed and versatile addition to your wardrobe while introducing buttonholes, buttons, and sweater bands.

Don’t see something you love? If none of these patterns feels quite right, but you’d still like to join the class, feel free to reach out. I’m happy to help you find another pattern that fits your style and sewing goals, or to discuss a pattern you already have in mind.

Each of these patterns offers a different approach to silhouette, construction, and fabric, allowing you to choose a project that fits your wardrobe, personal style, and sewing goals.

Supplies

Fabric: Requirements vary by pattern and size. Depending on your chosen project, suitable fabrics may include sweater knits, French terry, sweatshirt fleece, ponte, jersey, rib knits, linen, cotton twill, corduroy, wool, and other appropriate fabrics. I have a small curated selection of fabrics available in the studio, or you are welcome to source your own. I’m happy to help you choose the right fabric for your pattern.

Once you have purchased your pattern, send the pattern file to me and I will print it for you—you do not need to print it yourself. I will print both the pattern pieces and the instruction manual for you.
